Welcome

Although I created this blog more than a week ago, I have struggled to figure out just exactly why I did! Certainly the need to branch out, try new things, and get out of a rut (sleep, eat, work, eat, movie, sleep) is a strong motivator. There have been many milestones in the past year, but I have also always wanted to go beyond this somewhat standard chain of events of school, career, home life.

I also find that we in modern times (I know, now I'm really going for it) can easily forget and walk away from those things that make life both livable and survivable! Sewing, cooking, canning, playing, spirituality, thinking... I think we need all of these! And for me.... well, I am going to start working on making these activities a little more common in my life.

And since I've already reached the philosophical scale in this very first post, I might as well reach out to the Beatniks and profess my love for Kerouac's The Dharma Bums right here and now. Not that it's one of those books I've read and reread over and over (not since the 18-19 years), but it's one of those books that I constantly refer to in my thoughts for its ideas. I'll finish this post with one of my favorite quotes from the book. Consider it my motivation for this blog...

"Get yourself a hut house not too far from town, live cheap, go ball in bars once in awhile, write and rumble in the hills and learn to saw boards and talk to grandmas you damn fool, carry loads of wood for them, clap your hands at shrines, get supernatural favors, take flower-arrangement lessons and grow chrysanthemums by the door, and get married for krissakes, get a friendly smart sensitive human-being gal who don't give a shit for martinis every night and all that dumb white machinery in the kitchen."

Welcome.
