Time to plant tears, says the Almanac.
- Elizabeth Bishop
If there was an almanac
that told you how
your fingertips could
caress the flesh of a woman
as you might plough
your father's fields (which
is a beautiful thing to some)
if there was a calendar of days
when a girl grows into
a man's woman, sprouts
from the mother - which is warm
which is sunny autumn days
which is first loves -- if there
was such an almanac for the sexes
would we know the proper times
to sit together, to walk in the fields
watching the seasons? There are seeds
to be planted when weather is right.
